Sensors and Actuators

Measure, Digitize, Analyze and Innovate

Quantify yourself is one of the trends which require advanced body sensor applications. Interactive Wear provides application specific, distributed on-body sensor systems, ready for integration into garments or accessories. The customer defines the sensor positions at medically validated locations to measure data, textile cables enable superior synchronization without compromises in comfort for the user.

We support our customers with configurable sensor systems to provide solutions for tracking physical activities, posture, heart and respiration rate. With the support of sensor fusion and machine learning techniques we offer the development of systems for training and monitoring during work, sports and rehabilitation.

  • How are intertial motion sensors integrated into the system?

Different versions of intertial motion sensor units (IMUs) combined with other sensors like barometric pressure are part of our monitoring systems, either on-board or detached and connected via textile cables.

  • What kind of sensors can be integrated into the system?

The sensor system supports all kind of sensors with SPI/I2C interfaces. Sensors without a serial protocol could be attached to a smart sensor node adapter. The adapter has further capabilities to connect sensors to an ADC and voltage comparators.

  • How to work with the system?

The sensor hub is either a microcontroller based system, an application processor system, or a combination of both. The sensor hub provides a communication interface to applications on a smart phone, tablet, computer or in the cloud. The communication protocol depends on the chosen communication shield, e.g. BLE or WIFI.

  • Haptic feedback system

Haptic feedback is a concept to provide a immediate, intuitive feedback to the user. Beside optical and acoustical feedback channels, the haptic feedback is well suited to to work in harsh environments. We develop haptic feedback systems with multiple cyclic and linear rotary motors, integrated in textiles attached to the skin. The motors are controlled by an autonomous system which measures, computes and provides different vibration pattern.

  • e-Textile Sensors

We provide e-textile sensors including the electronics to digitize the sensor values. Interactive Wear is part of initiatives to develop new functional materials and sensors. An example of such a solution is a respiration sensor, based on our elastic textile cable. By stretching the cable an inductive change is triggered, which can be measured and analyzed.
